881-Yo-arh-yo!

Finally kept my promise, i.e. to catch 881 before end of August. And we did. We? Who? My entire family of 6 adults 1 child. What a hectic rush, for us to catch early dinner in the office (at 5pm leh), to leave office by 6.10pm, and headed to Tampines Mall's GV, and to be seated comfortably by 6.50pm. Gosh, we really can rush man!

Its been like at least 3 weeks since 881's showing in the cinemas, and I thot the cinema wuld not be so packed liao. Who knws, we still got lousy seats, despite me buyin the tixs since noon time. 4th row from front...sigh..

Hmm, i think this is a very sincere local film production. It is still humourous, but not corny like Jack's production. The casts are good, although not as big casts as the usual Bengs/Lians in Jack's shows. Like the fact that its pretty much a musical-flick than a show-flick. Hey, as good as the 80s Grease.

My humble critics on the cast (in no chronological order):

#1 - 玲姨 aka Aunty Ling (show label) by Liu Ling Ling

Natural! Totally Au Natural. A comedian who can act. Like her for her un-exaggerated acting. Think she did well, whether during a comical scene or a tear-jerking scene. Double-acted as the other half, as a Fairy, she looked kinda glam too! My initial impression of her, as a loud-mouthed emcee, with the constant "yellow" language, and occasional "care-la-fei", totally vanished.

#2 - 大木瓜 aka Big Papaya (show label) by Yeo Yann Yann

Comparing her to the Smaller Papaya, Mindee Ong, she is not exactly prettier. But, she exudes a certain kinda charisma, and i thot she has "the face" to act in diff types of shows. Be it a shrewd business woman, a mistress, a "siao gina" etc, think she can fit in the characters well. I thot she can really dance well in the show lor.. at least she looks like she's enjoying herself when dancing in the show. Her dance movements are certainly more "hiao" and smooth amongst the 2 Papayas.

#3 - 小木瓜 aka Small Papaya (show label) by Mindee Ong

Comparing her to the Big Papaya, Mindee is prettier. I liken her to a mischievious pixie. Like the impish air in her. From the big screen, she certainly showed off her flawless skin. Either that, or else the make up artiste did a great job!

She played a sad character in the show, as she finally succumbed to death. Her great acting, especially at her deathbed, was beyond description. the lifeless eyes, the cracked lips, the mucus flowing ever so freely...Aside from the sad scenes, her ah lian behaviour was thumbs up. Indeed, some ah lians i know, are as nice but impulsive, just like her character in the show.

#4 - Techno Cheekopek/观音 aka Guan Yin(show label) by Qi Yu Wu (715)

eh, how should i rate leh? after the show, i kept asking myself, if his role is redundant. Cos i feel that the script-writer placed tis character in for the sake of placing in. But, not that i am complaining too much, cos he's indeed an eye-candy. Of cos, including his cock. Oopss... i meant a cock literally, as in the male version of a hen. I have tis feeling that "此cock费比cock", but was the writer's intention to let audiences laugh.

i thot the acting was a little too nerdy, and his character was much shadowed over by the Papaya Sisters. But perhaps that was exactly the scriptwiter's intentions? But he's just very 酷 lor!

There are a few more interesting cast members, like the Durian Sisters (ewwww! cant stand the chinese-angmoh accents!), the HIV (Holy Innocent Virgins) and others. Special mentions go to the HIVs! I think a better name to use can be "Hilariously Impossible Virgins"!!! Hahaha

Well, tis is a good show, for the fact that my whole kampong watched together. Its been a real long time since we stepped into the movies (our last movie was "突然发财" by the man called Jack. Hope that i am able to bring my folks for more of such treats.
